Music Ministries

Worship.  Connect.  Serve.

~ Music fills us with theology that permeates our soul.  It helps us pray when we're too weary for words.  We can hum a hymn or whistle a refrain.  It helps us remember key Bible passages by setting a rhythm to the Psalms or poetry in our anthems and hymns.  In all of these ways, music refuels the spirit and guides us through another day.

Our Directors:

Susan Brandt
, Director of Music Ministries, served at Hicks United Methodist Church in Duncansville, PA before joining the team at FUMC.  She has music directed, conducted or performed in Annie (Miss Hannigan) Cinderella (Wicked Stepmother), The Lion in Winter (Eleanor of Aquitaine), Pippin, Little Shop of Horrors, Oliver (Widow Corney), Thoroughly Modern Millie (Muzzy), The Sound of Music (Elsa von Schräeder), Urinetown the Musical, The Man Who Came to Dinner (Lorraine), The Last Five Years, Jack: the Musical (Ma), Once upon a Mattress, and recently appeared as Florence in the Blair Concert Chorale presentation of Chess.   Susan holds degrees from Penn State University in Mechanical Engineering Technology and Integrative Arts.  She attended West Virginia Wesleyan College where she studied music.

Scott Pappal, Organist and Instrumental Leader, joined our music ministry team in September of 2009.  Scott is a graduate of Duquesne University with a degree in Music Education and Performance and is employed full-time in the Altoona Area School District as an instrumental instructor at the elementary level.  A french horn player, he is a member of Encore Brass and a 11 year member of The Altoona Symphony Orchestra.  Scott is a successful composer and arranger and leads our praise group, Vox Nova, at the Sunday 9:30 worship service.

Our Mission:

Music Ministry is an integral part of our worship; it prepares the heart to receive the spoken word.  Our many volunteers are dedicated to serving our church and communities   We believe that musical leadership is a call from God to serve in ministry to our church family and beyond.  In addition to the many volunteers who make up our Praise Bands and Choirs, we are incredibly blessed by the many talented individuals who make up ministry teams.  If you are interested in leading in some way as a musician, please call the Director of Music Ministries, Susan Brandt, at 695-4111, ext. 27, or drop by for a visit.
